Durable paper jewellery
27 March
Isn’t it amazing how you can roll a piece of paper and create
anything you want?
Quilling is an incredible way of paper crafting. People love making paper jewellery but most of us are not satisfied because it is
paper and it’s not water resistant or long lasting.
Today, I have some simple methods of making durable paper jewellery.
Today, I have some simple methods of making durable paper jewellery.
Supplies:
- Quilling strips (Off white & Black)
- Adhesive
- Slotted quilling tool (you can use markers and pens like I used in this tutorial)
- Black ribbons
- Nail polish (Black & Top coat)
You can also cut the strips from paper but I suggest you save the hassle and buy it because it is cheap according to the quantity it’s sold in.
Procedure:
You need to make two type of quilled empty circles, the off-
white one needs to be bigger than the black one so that it fits inside off
white circle. I used marker (d: 1.5cm) for the bigger circle and pen (d: 1 cm)
for the smaller one and it fits perfectly. The length of off-white strip is 42cm and black is 37cm.
- One by one roll paper strip around the marker to make empty circles as shown in the first image. You need to make 9 off-white and 16 black circles.
- Once you make required empty circles, you have to now transform it into a teardrop shape by pinching one side of the circle to form a point, like it’s done in the second image.
- You
should have 9 off-white teardrops, 9 black teardrops and 7 black circles. Now
from your middle finger put a gentle pressure on the inside to give it a rising
effect. Like I’ve shown in the fourth image, where you have flat empty circle transformed
to a rising one. This will make your neckpiece
look more attractive.
- Remember I mentioned we’ll make it durable?
- Grab your black nail polish and paint the black teardrops and circles as shown in fifth image. Let it dry completely.
- Next step is to fit the black teardrop inside the off white teardrop, to do that glue the sides and curved part of the black teardrop. Now fit it in the off white teardrop and hold it for 10 seconds so that it sticks properly.
- You need to make two small empty circles (black) to tie the ribbons which will go around your neck.
- In the end you should have 9 teardrops, 7 black and 2 small black circles. Now place it as shown in second last image. Put adhesive accordingly as it’s placed and paste. Don’t be lazy and hold it for approximately two minutes so that it sticks perfectly.
- Now knot the ribbons in the smaller circles we made earlier.
- Last step is to make it long lasting, paint the neckpiece (every side and tip of it) with top coat nail polish and it’s done.
Hope
you all enjoyed the tutorial. Let me know if you have any queries or
suggestions. If you like this post, share it with your friends on social media.
You can change the color or design according to your desire. I would love to
see you explore, don’t hesitate mailing me your work.
